  • Time zone: Note that Golden is on Mountain Standard Time (same as Alberta).
Lake Louise - Allow 1 hour
From Banff - Allow 1.5 hours
From Calgary - Allow 3 hours
  • Head West towards the Rocky Mountains on Highway #1 - Trans Canada Highway past the Banff and Lake Louise exits
  • Cross the Provincial border from Alberta into British Columbia and pass the town of Field, B.C.
  • 20 minutes after Field, you will exit Yoho National Park.
  • Turn Right at the next turn onto Beaverfoot Road by taking the underpass off of the Trans Canada Highway.
  • Look for signs for "Hydra River Guides." From there, you will cross the railway tracks and a bridge.
  • Shortly after the bridge, turn right onto Kicking Horse Road.
  • The riverbase will be the first driveway from the right past cabins with red roofs; follow the Hydra Sign to reach your final destination.
From Revelstoke - Allow 2.5 hours
From Golden - Allow 30 minutes
  • Take the Trans Canada Highway #1 - East and pass through the town of Golden
  • Turn Right on Beaverfoot Road ( a gravel road)
  • Look for signs for "Hydra River Guides." From there, you will cross over railway tracks and a bridge.
  • Shortly after the bridge, turn right onto Kicking Horse Road.

Everything You Need To Know About Your Golden Whitewater Rafting Adventure

Chinook Rafting has partnered with Hydra Rafting in Golden, B.C., to operate your whitewater rafting in Golden. These outfitters are the most experienced rafting company on the Kicking Horse River. Otherwise, we wouldn't partner with them. All guides are government certified as rafting guides and carry both Swiftwater Rescue, and Wilderness First Aid and completed 40 hours of First Aid Certification and CPR. All guides complete rigorous in-house training and safety meetings throughout the season to ensure their skills are maintained and improved. Many guides have several years of rafting experience from around the world.
You do not require rafting experience before you ride with us; our expert river guides will teach you everything you need to know! You will receive careful safety instructions, including how to correctly put on the safety equipment provided (wetsuit, helmet, and life jacket), how to sit in the raft, and how to row with a paddle. You will learn what to do in an emergency before we start on the river. If any part of the briefing feels uncomfortable, you can cancel your rafting trip and receive a full refund.
For your safety, we will not book your Rafting Golden trip unless you adhere to the below age and weight requirements.

All participants must fill out a waiver 24 hours before your rafting starts.
We recommend you wear a swimsuit under your clothes. Bring a towel and warm, dry clothes with you after the tour. Sometimes, the weather is cool, so if you tend to feel chilled, bring a warm sweater or additional layers with you. Your belongings can be stored in your car while you raft.

We highly recommend you wear sunscreen on hot, sunny days; however, do not apply it near your eyes.
